Mr Sanjeev Shivalkar, together with counsel Mr Ali Bajwa QC and Mr Jonathan Akinsanya, successfully represented this defendant on an Unlawful Act Manslaughter charge, whereby the victim was killed as a result of falling onto a knife contained within her own handbag, following a struggle with the defendant in the foyer of a South London flat block. The defendant pleaded guilty on the grounds of excessive self-defence and received a sentence of 2 years and 3 months imprisonment. Sentencing Judge Nicholas Loraine-Smith described it as an "extraordinary case".
